About the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek
Founded in Arnhem in March 1907 by the brothers Klaas and Jacob Vet, the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek grew out of the pottery the family had run in Purmerend until fire destroyed it the year before. Klaas, who had trained at the Amsterdam pottery De Distel, designed the models and directed the artistic programme, and the factory built its reputation on light-ground earthenware carrying tightly stylized floral and linear decoration. It reached its height in the early 1920s and had to expand its premises more than once. When the Depression made hand-painted ware too expensive to produce, Arnhem turned to flowing coloured glazes instead; the factory closed in 1934, after twenty-seven years.
