Meet Turia, a one-of-a-kind table lamp crafted from a vintage Benlloch vase, hand-painted in the celebrated ceramic tradition of Manises, Valencia. Part of our growing Spanish lamp collection, Turia reflects the legacy of Manuel Benlloch, who founded his family workshop in the early 20th century. Across three generations, Benlloch ceramics carried forward Manises’ majolica heritage, blending Hispano-Moresque revival motifs with a distinctly modern sensibility.
The lamp base is formed from a tall hexagonal vase, its surface finished in an ivory crackle glaze characteristic of Benlloch wares. Over this ground, a bold design is hand-painted in cobalt blue, iron-oxide orange, and cream. Each of the six faces is framed by cobalt ribs and filled with repeating ogee arches, lattice lozenges, and scrolling arabesques, creating a rich interplay of geometry and ornament, rooted in Hispano-Moresque and Mudéjar revival traditions. The underside bears the hand-painted signature “Benlloch España”, affirming its authenticity as a product of this Manises workshop, active into the late 20th century.
To complement the ceramic lamp base, we’ve paired Turia with a bespoke hexagonal lampshade made to echo the vase’s form. Crafted in Dupion silk in warm tones of orange, peach, and gold, the fabric’s natural slub and subtle surface variations add depth and character, harmonizing with the rust-toned arabesques on the vase. The shade is finished with a Houlès passementerie trim, and when illuminated, it casts a golden glow that enhances the lamp’s sculptural presence.
Height: 74 cm (29 in) with lampshade
Diameter: 34 cm (13 in) with lampshade
