Meet Pinya — a one-of-a-kind table lamp transformed from a rare antique Art Deco vase designed by Charles Catteau for Boch Frères Keramis (Model 1118, c. 1920–1930). Lovingly handcrafted, Pinya preserves the integrity of this iconic “pineapple” vase while reimagining it as a striking piece of functional art. The lamp is paired with a bespoke, hand-pleated lampshade in Ikat cotton-silk—woven and dyed by hand on traditional Uzbek looms—and finished with a matching green fabric cord. A seamless blend of heritage and craftsmanship, this unique table lamp stands as a refined example of handcrafted lighting at its best.
The vase base, known as Model 1118, reflects Charles Catteau’s bold Art Deco vocabulary. Its ovoid form is embellished with a deeply sculpted geometric relief, subtly reminiscent of stylized natural forms, and finished in an elegant ivory craquelure glaze. Produced in La Louvière, Belgium between 1920 and 1930 by the esteemed Boch Frères Keramis, this ceramic form—popularly dubbed the “pineapple vase”—embodies the era’s commitment to both technical innovation and decorative modernism. Catteau’s influence is unmistakable: rhythmic motifs, sculptural texture, and refined experimentation with surface finishes.
Our Pinya table lamp is a functional art piece that also serves as an emblem of welcome. Ideal for a living room, bedroom, or entranceway, this decorative table lamp channels centuries of cultural meaning: pineapples have long stood as symbols of hospitality, warmth, and generosity—once displayed outside returning captains’ homes to signal safety, welcome, and invitation to guests.
Height: 61 cm (24 in) with lampshade
Diameter: 28 cm (11 in) with lampshade

About the Maker
“Boch Frères Keramis was founded in 1841 by Eugène and Victor Boch and their brother-in-law, Jean-Baptiste Nothomb, in La Louviere, Belgium. Decades later in 1906, French ceramicist Charles Catteau joined the company as artistic director, a position he held for 42 years. His signature Art Deco designs were influenced by Japonisme, Cubism, and abstraction of nature, and he was ultimately responsible for the company’s transition from producing utilitarian objects to esteemed works of art. Boch Frères Keramis closed down in 1985, and though they were acquired by other companies afterward, they closed permanently in 2009.” —from Artnet
