Géo Martel Delft-Style Polychrome Antique Table Lamp – Louis
Meet Louis, a striking antique table lamp attributed to the early 20th-century workshop of Georges Martel (Géo Martel) in Desvres. Bearing the pseudo-Delft “LF” mark—an imitation of the 17th-century signatures used by Delft potteries such as De Metaale Pot under Lambertus van Eenhoorn—this richly detailed vase exemplifies the historically faithful revivalism Martel championed. A standout among collectible table lamps, Louis offers both provenance and presence.
The ceramic base features vibrant Dutch polychrome—burnt orange, cobalt blue, olive green, and golden yellow—applied over a soft white tin-glazed ground. Hand-painted bird motifs, floral sprays, and scrolling foliage reflect the precision and balance characteristic of Martel’s Delft-style lamp designs. His work stands apart from earlier Desvres ateliers through its fidelity to historical forms and color harmonies—an approach that continues to captivate collectors.
A new bespoke lampshade in slate-blue velvet, handmade in an atelier near Amsterdam, complements the vivid hues of the base. The rich velvet surface softens the overall look while enhancing the polychrome palette. This handcrafted lamp casts a warm, ambient light—ideal for adding atmosphere to living room lampscapes or as refined lights for the bedroom.
Louis is more than a light source—he is a decorative table lamp that embodies the union of heritage and craftsmanship. As a piece of functional art and a unique table lamp, he elevates any space with historical depth and quiet luxury.

About the Maker
Georges Martel (signed Géo Martel) operated a faience atelier in Desvres from circa 1900 to the early 1940s, producing Delft-style polychrome ceramics of remarkable quality. His handcrafted lamps often bore pseudo-Delft marks—like the “LF” seen here—in direct imitation of signatures used by 17th-century Delft potters, especially Lambertus van Eenhoorn of De Metaale Pot. Unlike earlier Desvres producers such as the Fourmaintraux-Courquin factory, Martel emphasized historical authenticity and painterly finesse. Today, his works remain among the most sought-after vintage table lamps in the Delft revival tradition.
