Meet Flora, a one-of-a-kind table lamp lovingly handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam. This piece brings together two rare design legacies from the same moment in time. The ceramic base is an original Gouda vase from the short-lived Flora Lotus series, produced in the Netherlands in 1977. Finished in a vivid, inimitable blue glaze, the vase features a hand-painted, abstract frieze in white — a rhythmic, stylized motif that wraps the vessel like a folk-inspired ribbon. As marked “Handwerk” on the base, each Lotus piece was painted entirely by hand, not transfer-printed, making every vase in the series slightly unique. The visual effect is both bold and refined — a modernist reimagining of Dutch floral tradition rooted in Gouda’s long history of plateel (glazed earthenware) craftsmanship.
The Lotus series holds a special place in Dutch ceramic history. Introduced and discontinued in the same year, it was one of Flora’s final hand-painted lines before the factory shifted toward modern industrial production. With its saturated blue palette, crisp white decoration, and confident visual simplicity, the series embodies late-midcentury Dutch design while staying deeply connected to heritage. The form number 1513, marked on the base, reflects this exact intersection of modernity and craft.
To complement the ceramic base, we’ve paired it with a bespoke lampshade in Liberty Fabric’s “Marquess Garden” print, Lapis colourway — another archival design originally conceived in 1977. The fabric is a richly detailed Arts and Crafts revival pattern, inspired by 19th-century floral shawls from Liberty’s archive. Printed in Italy on cotton Chesham Sateen, it features layered blue florals and foliage in shades of Delft, cobalt, and pale sky. The result is a softly luminous fabric with a graceful drape that adds romantic texture to the silhouette. That both the vase and the fabric originated independently in 1977 gives this lamp an unexpected poetry — two mid-century floral reinterpretations united into one harmonious whole.
This lamp would sit beautifully in interiors that embrace color, story, and layered design. Picture it in a Paris-style apartment, a Grandmillennial bedroom with vintage prints, or a collector’s study where history meets modern eclecticism. Wherever it’s placed, Lotus offers artistry, rarity, and timeless decorative presence.
The lamp was created without altering or damaging the original vase in any way.The lamp is finished with a custom-cut brass top that echoes the shape of the vase, along with a matching blue cord that complements its rich palette. As with all our work, the vase has been preserved in its original form — the lamp was created without any alteration or damage. The final image shows Flora alongside her sister lamp, Lotus, also available for sale.

About the Maker
Founded in 1945 in Gouda, Plateelbakkerij Flora was one of the Netherlands’ most innovative mid-century ceramic manufacturers. Known for its bold glazes and painterly surfaces, Flora upheld the Dutch tradition of hand-painted earthenware well into the 1970s. The Lotus series — introduced briefly in 1977 — is widely considered one of the factory’s final artistic achievements, blending midcentury abstraction with floral heritage. Each vase was uniquely hand-painted. The company later merged into Royal Goedewaagen, and today, Lotus pieces are cherished as emblematic of Flora’s artistry during a pivotal transitional moment.
