Dutch Gouda PZH Art Deco Table Lamp Pair, 1918, New Burnt Orange Shades (for Rohan!)
Pair of Dutch Gouda pottery vessels from PZH (Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland), hand-painted circa 1918 in the Nizza decor by Gerarda Johanna Lugthart, a documented PZH painter of the period. The forms and ornament sit at the transition between Art Nouveau and early Art Deco—curving floral motifs arranged within increasingly structured, rhythmic fields—rendered in a unique color palette of rust orange, ochre, lavender-blue and soft green on a warm cream ground. Each base carries the original PZH Lazarus Gate mark, model number, decor name and painter’s initials. Amitābha Studio has transformed the pair into one-of-a-kind table lamps with custom-cut brass fittings, fabric wrapped cords, and bespoke burnt-orange linen shades finished with a Houlès Paris passementerie trim, creating a distinctive blend of early 20th-century Dutch craftsmanship and contemporary studio design.
About Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH)
Founded in Gouda in 1898, Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland quickly became one of the Netherlands’ most celebrated ceramic producers. Known for its richly glazed plateel earthenware, the factory evolved from the floral Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles of the early 20th century into refined, modernist designs by the 1930s–1960s. Every piece was hand-painted by master decorators, identifiable by their initials beneath the factory’s Lazarus-gate emblem. Today, PZH ceramics are prized for their artistry, color innovation, and reflection of Dutch decorative heritage.
