Meet Morales — a one-of-a-kind table lamp handcrafted from a traditional hand-painted Fajalauza ceramic jug by the historic Cecilio Morales Moreno workshop in Granada, Spain. A radiant fusion of Andalusian heritage and contemporary artistry, this antique table lamp was created from an original jarrón, handmade and hand-painted in the celebrated Morales family atelier, a lineage of potters active since 1517. Each brushstroke reflects centuries of Granada’s ceramic tradition, carried forward by Cecilio Morales Moreno (1939–2022), the last master potter of this remarkable dynasty.

Morales’ ceramic base, tin-glazed in luminous white and hand-painted in the signature azul y verde (green and blue) palette, features flowing vegetal scrolls, stylized birds, and pomegranate motifs — timeless symbols of Granada’s Moorish legacy. Crafted from local clay and decorated with natural mineral pigments of copper and cobalt oxide, its graceful globular form, with narrow neck and handle, recalls historic alcarrazas once used to cool water, connecting this handcrafted lamp to five centuries of Andalusian domestic tradition. A discreet green workshop mark on the base authenticates its origin from the Cecilio Morales lineage.

Morales’ custom lampshade was designed and woven by Amitābha Studio in an ombre green merino wool.

About Cecilio Morales Moreno, Fajalauza (Granada, Spain)

The Morales family stands at the heart of Granada’s storied Fajalauza ceramic tradition, a craft lineage dating back to 1517. For over five centuries, their workshop has preserved the distinctive tin-glazed earthenware style that defines Andalusian pottery — characterized by hand-painted blue and green motifs of birds, pomegranates, and scrolling foliage. Cecilio Morales Moreno (1939–2022), the last master potter of this direct line, upheld the techniques and aesthetic vocabulary passed down through generations. His workshop earned international recognition at the 1910 Brussels Universal Exhibition, cementing Fajalauza as a symbol of Granada’s cultural identity. Today, the craft continues under the Fundación Cerámica Fajalauza, ensuring that this living heritage remains an enduring expression of southern Spain’s artistry and history.
