Otero Regal Spanish Modernist Vintage Ceramic Table Lamp – Trebaruna

€1,790.00

Meet Trebaruna, one of the first additions to our new Spanish lamps collection! Trebaruna is a striking one-of-a-kind table lamp handcrafted from a vintage Alfonso Otero Regal botella or ceramic bottle vase, created in Galicia, Spain. Named after the ancient Galician-Lusitanian goddess who protected homes and families, Trebaruna evokes the strength and watchful grace of a guardian spirit. The sculptural form of the vase—with her rounded “arms” extending upward as if supporting the shade—seems to lift the light itself, transforming the piece into a symbolic protector of the domestic sphere.

Executed in deep navy brushwork with earthy terracotta spirals and subtle sgraffito incisions, the vase’s surface carries both energy and balance. The circular upper motif resembles a radiant sunburst around the face of the figure, while the elongated body below is adorned with a bold sgraffito spiral star. Set against a matte, unglazed background, the contrasts are graphic and tactile, at once modernist in spirit and rooted in Galician craft traditions. This composition embodies Alfonso Otero Regal’s celebrated talent for fusing expressive form with artisanal precision.

Trebaruna is paired with a bespoke cylindrical lampshade in Japanese cotton, printed in calligraphic script with a gold-lined interior. The shade’s rhythmic lettering complements the expressive hand-painted base, while diffusing the light with a warm, protective glow.

More than illumination, Trebaruna is a piece of functional art—a collectible table lamp with sculptural presence and mythic resonance. Ideal as a centerpiece in a living room, study, or bedroom, it brings depth, history, and refined artistry to any interior.

Height: 63 cm (25 in) with lampshade
Diameter: 24 cm (16 in) with lampshade

Alfonso Otero Regal and Regal Cerámica

Regal Cerámica is a distinguished Galician ceramics workshop founded in the early 1980s. The workshop was formally inaugurated in 1982, though Alfonso Otero Regal had already been working as a ceramist in the 1970s. The production philosophy emphasizes artisanal process, regional materials such as local clays, and a distinctive decorative style blending influences from Mediterranean, ethnic, and 20th-century vanguard art traditions.

Their decoration techniques often combine brushwork in cobalt oxide and iron oxide, sometimes enhanced with esgrafiado (incised work), and occasionally a third firing for certain color details. The creative ethos draws inspiration from Picasso, Guayasamín, and other modern artists while asserting originality rather than replication.

In 2002, Otero Regal acquired an old leather-tanning factory in the Xunqueira neighborhood of Viveiro (Lugo) and converted it into the Regal-Xunqueira cultural complex (museum, workshop, gallery, retail, garden), preserving local industrial heritage while centering his work in a sculptural, immersive environment. In 2011, Regal Cerámica was awarded the National Craftsmanship Prize (Premio Nacional de Artesanía) in Spain.
