Pair of Royal Delft Blue Vintage Double-Gourd Ceramic Table Lamps with New Vermillion Silk Shades– Frida & Diego

€1,860.00

Hand-painted Royal Delft blue and white double-gourd table lamp pair from the 1970s with new vermillion dupion silk lampshades, custom brass fittings and fabric wrapped cords. Height includes lampshades.

Meet Frida and Diego a vibrant pair of vintage table lamps lovingly hand-crafted from authentic Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles) double-gourd vases, hand-painted in 1974 and 1977 in Delft, the Netherlands.

Each vase base is in a classic double-gourd form—long associated with prosperity and longevity in Chinese decorative arts and embraced by Delft makers from the 17th century onward. The rounded lower bulb swells generously before tapering to a slender waist and upper globe, creating a sculptural silhouette that reads beautifully from every angle. Hand-painted floral compositions unfold in layered tones of Delft blue, from soft powder blue washes to deep cobalt accents. Peonies, scrolling foliage, and delicate geometric banding encircle the body with assured, fluid brushwork.

Crowning the vases are custom-made vermilion dupion silk lampshades, their visible slub texture adding depth and a tactile richness. The saturated red-orange hue creates a deliberate and sophisticated counterpoint to the cool blue ceramics, intensifying both colors through contrast. The inner lining is copper. When illuminated, the lampshades emit a warm, flattering glow.

Height: 54 cm (21.3 in) with lampshades

De Porceleyne Fles, later given the distinction of Koninklijke or Royal, known now as Royal Delft, is a Dutch manufacturer of Delft Blue pottery, or Delfts Blauw aardewerk, headquartered in Delft, the Netherlands. It is the only remaining ceramics factory out of 32 that were established in Delft during the 17th century. Founded in 1653, it has been active for over 360 years without interruption. Royal Delft is not only the oldest surviving producer of Delftware, but one that is highly respected for its artistry. The motifs on Delft Blue ceramics find their roots in the Chinese porcelain from the Ming and K‟ang Hsi dynasties.
