About Talavera and Cerámica Artística Alférez

In December 2019, UNESCO inscribed the ceramic-making processes of Talavera de la Reina and El Puente del Arzobispo on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Cerámica Artística Alférez works in Talavera de la Reina, in the province of Toledo, under the artistic direction of Antonio José Alférez. It is one of more than thirty workshops still active in a town that has been making tin-glazed pottery for five centuries. Electric kilns and wheels aside, the process is the same as it what it was four hundred years ago.
