Royal Tichelaar Makkum Delft Polychrome Vintage Table Lamp – Zonne

€1,490.00

Meet Zonne, a delicate vintage table lamp handcrafted from a rare mid-20th century Delft polychrome vase, produced by Royal Tichelaar Makkum—the oldest ceramic makers in the Netherlands, with a lineage tracing back to 1572. We’ve paired the lamp with a pleated silk lampshade in light sage green.

The vase base has an octagonal form and is richly decorated in vibrant polychrome. Stylized floral sprays, including bright yellow blossoms, are framed by scrolling red panels, their lively brushwork reflecting the Delft polychrome tradition with echoes of Japanese Imari and European Chinoiserie influence. The painter’s skilled hand gives depth and rhythm to the design, showcasing the artistry that made Royal Tichelaar Makkum one of the Netherlands’ most esteemed ceramic workshops.

The pleated silk lampshade casts a gentle, diffused light and provides a beautiful complementary balance to the vivid palette of the ceramic base. The soft sage tone grounds the rich colors, creating a refined harmony between shade and vase.

Smaller in scale, Zonne is ideally suited as an accent lamp, bringing both color and craftsmanship to a living room or bedroom setting.

The underside bears the Royal Tichelaar Makkum factory mark confirming its provenance and mid-20th-century date.

Height: 60 cm (24 in) with lampshade
Diameter: 35 cm (12.6 in) with lampshade

Much of the most beautiful modern Delftware comes from the Tichelaar factory in the quaint fishing village of Makkum. Preserving the centuries old tradition passed on by the 13 generations of Tichelaars, nearly all the production is still done by hand. Koninklijke Tichelaar (1572) is the oldest ceramics company in the Netherlands based in Makkum, Friesland. After initially producing bricks and tiles, the company has focused on traditional decorative pottery since 1890. In 1960, the company received the Royal predicate on the occasion of its 300th anniversary. Royal Tichelaar Makkum takes its long history seriously without resting on their laurels. They continue to experiment, bringing together classic craftsmanship, contemporary design and research for the future.
