Meet Cornelia, an exquisite vintage table lamp handcrafted from a rare mid-20th century Delft polychrome vase, produced by the legendary Royal Tichelaar Makkum—one of Europe’s oldest ceramic manufacturers, with a lineage tracing back to 1572. Meticulously transformed into a one-of-a-kind table lamp, this piece preserves centuries of Dutch ceramic tradition while offering a vibrant decorative presence. Its octagonal silhouette, complemented by a custom-cut brass cap echoing the vase’s shape, brings a refined symmetry that enhances both historical authenticity and modern luxury.
Rendered in rich cobalt blue, deep terracotta red, olive green, and sunlit yellow, the vase bursts with stylized floral bouquets framed in intricate cartouches—a hallmark of Makkum’s Delft-style tradition. These decorative motifs are inspired by 17th- and 18th-century Dutch interpretations of Eastern ornamental traditions, and every panel is hand-painted with meticulous brushwork and layered tin-glazed depth. The polychrome palette was developed as a more opulent alternative to classic Delft Blue, making this style particularly sought after among collectors of decorative table lamps and Dutch ceramics.
Paired with a custom, deep indigo velvet lampshade, this designer table lamp balances timeless elegance with contemporary sophistication. The plush texture and saturated hue of the shade echo the cobalt tones in the base, while a matching blue silk cord adds a final note of refinement. The octagonal brass top is precision-crafted to mirror the shape of the vase, uniting historical form with bespoke design in a truly artisanal lamp.
An exceptional example of European ceramic artistry, Cornelia is perfect for bringing depth and distinction to both traditional and eclectic interiors. Whether placed in an entryway, layered into a living room design, or used as a statement bedside piece, this handcrafted lamp offers both elegance and function—ideal for those seeking distinctive living room lamps or lights for the bedroom.

Much of the most beautiful modern Delftware comes from the Tichelaar factory in the quaint fishing village of Makkum. Preserving the centuries old tradition passed on by the 13 generations of Tichelaars, nearly all the production is still done by hand. Koninklijke Tichelaar (1572) is the oldest ceramics company in the Netherlands based in Makkum, Friesland. After initially producing bricks and tiles, the company has focused on traditional decorative pottery since 1890. In 1960, the company received the Royal predicate on the occasion of its 300th anniversary. Royal Tichelaar Makkum takes its long history seriously without resting on their laurels. They continue to experiment, bringing together classic craftsmanship, contemporary design and research for the future.
